Annuals
Annuals are a fun, easy way to brighten up a porch, sidewalk or flower bed, especially after a long winter. Be aware that annuals do require more watering attention than most perennials, and therefore are a great pop of color even if they’re not the entire ensemble.

Annuals that do well in Laramie include:
  • Pansies
  • Marigolds
  • Geraniums
  • Dianthus
  • Dahlias
  • Decorative grasses
  • Morning Glory
  • Gallardia (Blanket flower)
  • Sweet Peas
  • Cosmos (reseeds well)
  • Lobelia
  • Alyssum (reseeds well)
  • California poppies (reseeds well)
  • Sunflowers

Perennials
Laramie is a great place to grow perennials because they are hardier and require less fuss than most annuals. Wyoming has a wonderful diversity of native wildflowers that grow especially well in Laramie, since they are accustomed to the wind, sun and precipitation characteristics of this climate. Visit the UW Berry Center’s green roof or Wyoming Native Plant Society’s website to learn more.
Also, check out the Water-Wise Demonstration Garden Booklet or the Plants With Altitude: Regionally Native Plants for Wyoming Gardens – and pick some of these plants out for your own garden!

Perennials that grow well in Laramie include, but are not limited to:

  • Bleeding heart
  • Blue columbine
  • Pasque flowers
  • Artemesia (silver mound)
